Todd Scott - Executive Director of Player Transition &
Development for the Central Southeast Region

Todd Scott knows all about connecting with and understanding an athletes life - he lived the dream for over 20 years - and it is still as much a part of him today out of the game, as it was when he started playing at the age of seven in Texas. Todd Scott was a star athlete, he played with star athletes, and now he is a career coach for start athletes. Todd has experienced the good things that go with being a professional athlete, and he has experienced the obstacles and valley's - first hand.

Like many pro players, he was heavily recruited from middle school to high school, and from high school to college to play football. In the state of Texas, football is almost a religion - some would say "it is the religion". Todd was a scholarship student athlete who earned numerous college football honors at the Southwest Louisiana State, including All League Honors, and All American honors his senior year. Post college, after receiving his degree (BS) in Business, he was drafted in the x round by the Minnesota Vikings.

Todd spent seven years (1991 to 1997) playing in the NFL as a defensive back - far above the norm of 82% of NFL players released after just five years. That’s why most players refer to the NFL as "Not For Long". Todd was a Pro Bowl selection in 1996, naming him one of the leagues best that year on defense. He played a total of seven years with four teams (Minnesota, The New York Jets, Tampa Bay, and Kansas City), That type of job / team rotation builds into a man the need to compete and survive, and forces a man to develop character, flexibility, and initiative, or you simply get left behind. Todd Scott possesses all those traits and more!

Todd brings to Sports Professionals and you the transitioning player, several ket skills and experiences that enable him to connect with players in a powerful way:

- He lived "in the locker room" for over 22 years, and relates to the player's life

- As a pro athlete, he developed and managed "off the field" a financial investing group of other active and former players to assist them in maximizing their earning and investing power.

- He was an NFL Club Development Director for the Houston Texans for two years. This gives Todd an intimate understanding of how the team club coordinators work, their role, and how to gain club support.

- Within one year in his Club Development Director role - Todd won the award for creating the most impactful new program for NFL Teams - The "Corporate Combine Program".

Todd knows how a player can leverage their NFL experience, contacts, and player programs to build a successful career off the field when their playing days are over. He understands the importance of networking and has numerous business contacts nationwide. As the SPI Executive Director of Player Transition & Development for the Central Southeast Region, Todd relates to former players in a very real & personal way that helps them focus on the key career strategies needed at the time of their separation.

Since 1999, Todd has been involved with athlete transition education and coaching. He has coached or trained numerous former pro athletes experiencing the challenges of leaving the game behind. Todd was a key player participant in the NFL Career Resources Program Pilot delivered by SPI from the fall of 1999 to the Spring of 2000 - which successfully transitioned 11 former players into off the field careers.
