The Sports Professionals Foundation

Released NFL players (and other pro's and Olympic athletes) face numerous career transition and emotional issues. Studies show that 72% of former pro players are divorced within three years, and 64% are bankrupt within six.

Players who do not get a new goal, a new career, or finish school (basically, inject a new structure into their lives post sports), face a downward spiral that leaves many former star athletes wondering what happened. They're bitter, or worse - in the headlines for illegal or self destructive behaviors.

Our experience shows that Players who get the right coaching post sports, can easily learn to apply the very skills and talents that made them great on the field. They swiftly transfer these competencies into new endeavors and careers, and go on to make productive and positive impacts in their own, their family, or their community's lives.

The Sports Professionals Foundation was created to provide research, teaching, counseling, career coaching, and player development activities which help players make informed choices about their future. Our goal is to make a positive difference in this unique populations lives post sports. Our team of former players and volunteers are committed to helping transitioning players get the help they need, and to engage them in activities and learning which moves their career options forward. We know that when a player successfully leverages the power of their competitive sports success in productive off the field endeavors, incredible results are created for their families, businesses, and communities.

Once established in a new career, our team of professionals follows former players throughout their careers & lives, challenging them to grow, and to give back to others the benefit of their inspiring experiences.

Volunteers: Are you a former athlete who has established him or herself in a new career? Can you relate to the challenge of transitioning from being focused primarily on sports and having your identity wrapped up around the game? If so, you may be a great mentor or coach to a young rookie or seasoned veteran.

Contribute: Does teaching another transitioning pro about your profession sound appealing? We are continually looking to expand our mentoring network of professionals in a variety of careers and industries. We also staff our national network of professional counselors and trainers based on the generous contributions of contributors and sponsors. Your participation in SPI alumni networking events ensures our work and ability to reach players is fulfilled.
